Outdoor Guide
April in Pittsburgh is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, with Spring in early bloom.
Explore Scenic Trails
Hikers should explore the Emerald View Trail, a moderate-skilled hike through Emerald View Park with beautiful views of the city and river, just 12 miles from the convention center.
Go out a bit further to Schenley Park and hike the easy Panther Hollow Trail or the moderate Double Loop. The park is also a popular spot for biking and running, and has a playground for the littles.
Spend a Day at Frick Park
Don’t miss Frick Park, Pittsburgh’s largest historic park, a true treasure with over 640 acres of valleys, trails, slopes, and creeks, and more. Immerse yourself so deeply in nature you’ll forget that you’re still within city limits. Psst birders, over 100 species have been spotted here. Bring your binoculars and cameras!
See the View from Up Top
Not much of a hiker, but enjoy the views? Take a ride on the Duquesne Incline, a 148-year old cable-car open rain or shine from morning (6:30am) to night (12:30am) for stunning sunrise and nighttime views of the city. Just remember to bring cash – exact change only accepted.
Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
Opened in 1893, Phipps has prided itself on bringing horticulture to new heights by merging its historic original greenhouses with lush garden displays. In addition to native plants, Phipps is home to species from around the world, including the Tropical Fruit and Spice Room and the Japanese Garden Room. Experience the gardens in bloom in the springtime!
Go Golfing!
Ranked as the city’s Best Public Golf Course for six consecutive years, Quicksilver Golf Club offers beautiful views, fast-rolling greens, and a course layout described as ‘fair but challenging.’ Get to know your colleagues while playing 18 holes.
National Aviary
Step into America’s only independent indoor zoo dedicated to birds. Inside the National Aviary, hundreds of beautiful and exotic birds fly freely around you in large, natural habitats. Be sure to check out the interactive feedings and shows for an up-close encounter.
